Issues Connecting Barclays or Barclaycard

Tips if you're struggling to connect your Barclays or Barclaycard accounts to Coconut

Updated over a week ago

Barclays supports connecting both personal and business bank accounts to Coconut.

Barclaycard credit cards are also supported - if you have a Barclays account as well, this can sometimes cause issues when connecting.

Unfortunately, the Barclays mobile app can have issues, particularly when granting access to both personal and business accounts at the same time.

If you find that one of your accounts is not available as an option to connect to Coconut from the Barclays app, the following processes can help:

Connecting Barclays accounts

1. Use Coconut Web (recommended)
Connect your Barclays account over on Coconut Web instead of via the app. This will use the Barclays Web flow instead, which works better than their mobile app when you have multiple accounts.

Once you've logged in to Coconut Web, head to your 'Bank feeds' tab > click 'Add account', and go through the flow to set up your Barclays account(s).

2. Delete the Barclays mobile app
Alternatively, you can try this method (albeit slightly inconvenient):

  1. First, delete the Barclays banking app from your smart phone (you can add this back later).

  2. Now, complete the bank connection flow using Coconut as before.

  3. This time, you'll be directed to the Barclays website instead of the mobile app.

  4. Login to the Barclays website and complete the authentication.

  5. You should be able to now select from all your accounts.

  6. Once you've successfully connected the account, you can safely reinstall the Barclays app on your phone.

Connecting Barclaycard accounts

If you have a Barclaycard account but also use Barclays accounts, then sometimes the logins are combined. In this case, you may need to select the Barclays provider rather than Barclaycard when trying to connect your Barclaycard.

You may also have more success doing the connection through Web (as above) rather than through the Mobile app because of how the Barclays mobile apps work.
