We've spoken to several customers about accepting Direct Debit payments since we launched. It currently requires a third party and we generally find our users recommending GoCardless.
 

Here's a preview of the steps to help you along the way

Create and set up your account

It's pretty straightforward, just head to their website and sign up. They'll ask for some basic info about you to start with. Once you've created your account, go through the 'Set up your account' step.

GoCardless will then ask for some more info about your business and they advise that it can take around 5-10 minutes.
 

Select a package

Choose the package containing the features you want and you'll then be asked for some more details, such as your date of birth and address, along with some business info.
 

Customise your payment page

You'll then be able to customise the page your customers will see when using GoCardless to pay you via Direct Debit.
 

Add your Coconut account to receive payouts

Next, you'll be asked for your bank account details. You can find your Coconut account number and sort code by heading to the 'Activity' tab in the app and tapping on the Card Drawer, at the top of your screen.

If you see the bank name appear as Prepay Technologies Ltd, that's our banking partner (otherwise known as PrePay Solutions or PPS).

 
Verify your account

Finally, GoCardless will ask you to make a payment (£0.01) to them, to verify the bank account you've provided. Remember to do this from your Coconut app, via the 'Payments' tab.

You should be seeing this screen by now:

Click on the button labelled 'Verify your bank account' and they'll share specific instructions with you.

Allow up to 3 working days and you should receive a notification from GoCardless to let you know the verification has been successful.
